the latest:

(v v excited always)

It's been a long time since my last workshop, so I'm really looking forward to spreading the collage love again at Possible Worlds!  Riffing off of my latest explorations into identity and storytelling, I'll be leading a workshop called Portraits and Other Stories on October 19th.  Participants are welcome to bring images of whoever they're into, and we'll explore how to use my minimalst style to create collage portraits.  Register on possibleworldsshop.com !

WORKSHOP

In the latest edition of what Kristina's very, very excited about: my new position as a Projects Assistant at Possible Worlds! I started the position in the summer and quickly got swept up in making things happen that I'm only now getting to take a step back and update.

Possible Worlds is a tiny art/music/event/workshop space in Chinatown, and I'm so proud to be part of a team that supports, facilitates, and celebrates under-represented, emerging, diverse, and socially conscious artists and art forms.  As the Projects Assistant, I get to put my love of organizing artists and events to work; primarily with the shop's new meetup series that co-founder Melanie and I dubbed Practise/Process which focuses on the different ways creative practitioners can develop and sustain their professional careers. I'm so looking forward to tapping into all the expertise in Ottawa's art communities and developing this meetup as an important resource.  Our first meet up was led by Olivia Johnston, Ryan Smeeton, and PW co-founder Melanie Yugo and we discussed their recent artist residencies and how to make them happen. Coming up on October 26th will be a discussion on Art with Vulnerable Communities, led by people whose work I respect so so much: Kalkidan Assefa, Mailyne Briggs, and Mique Michelle -- come learn with me!

FALL 2017

COMMUNITY

I tried to update sooner, but maybe heat exhaustion got the best of me and I was timed out of my web editor before I clicked save.  :S  The heat exhaustion was likely from running up and down Somerset St W all day on the 16th as the official Artist Liaison of this year's Remixed Festival.  While I didn't exhibit any of my own work like I have for the past 3 years, I'm super proud of the exhibits I helped organize in shops, restaurants, and cafes all along Somerset from Lyon to Rochester st.  September 16th was our big opening day celebration, and beyond the art exhibits we the Remixed committee closed Somerset from Percy to Bay and had a full day of programming,  The committee learned a lot, and we're already looking to how we can improve next year's festival.  If you missed opening day, you can still visit the art exhibits until October 16th -- visit chinatownremixed.com for a map of participating artists and businesses.

SEPT 16- OCT 16

FESTIVAL

With more excitement and gratitude than usual, my work is part of a group show called Return to Figurative at Ottawa's Studio Sixty Six. This gallery has always supported exciting works from emerging artists - being included among them is indeed a pretty big deal to me.

The show opens July 6th at 6:30.  The other artists (Julia Campisi, Amanda Gorman, Ariane Fairlie) in the show and I will be serving complimentary pink-themed snacks, and there'll be rosé at the cash bar!  Come out, say hi, take in some amazing art and see the beginnings of my newest body of work!

So much going on that I've neglected this space a bit.  If you're out exploring Ottawa this summer, keep your eyes open for my work at these two wonderful venues: 1) St. Charles Market - thank you to Melanie of launchyourspace for reaching out to me and including my work in this gorgeous adaptive reuse project in Ottawa's Beechwood neighbourhood! and 2) The Art House Cafe - which is now fully licensed for your local beer sipping, patio enjoying, art loving needs!

Four of my original handcut collages are now up at Pressed - in my opinion, one of the most important venues for Ottawa's emerging art and music scenes.  My work's up as part of a group show along with painter Corinne Blouin-Hudon and photographer Nneka Token.

The vernissage is on Sunday March 12th, starting at 8pm. I'll be there with magazines, scissors, and glue so you can try your hand at cut and paste!
